Wheelchair basketballer Ian Kanji keen to impress at Commonwealth Games

Kanji, a Nairobi resident originally from Githurai 44, has been playing wheelchair basketball for approximately five years, having started around 2021.

"Yes, we have stepped up our preparations and have been in camp for about two weeks now.

"We are trying to push ourselves harder because we know we will be facing the best and most experienced teams in the world.

"My international exposure began early when I represented Kenya in an under-23 tournament in South Africa.

"Since then, I have risen through the ranks from junior games to qualifiers for major continental events.”

Looking ahead to the upcoming global competitions, Kanji expressed high confidence in the team’s prospects and praised the current support system.

Recognizing that they will be competing against some of the best teams in the world, Kanji remains motivated by national pride.

"We are getting all that we need in camp and we have good expectations as we usually do as Kenyans and we know what is needed from us. I just hope that the international exposure will open further professional doors; you never know who is watching.”
