Members of Karura Village in Kabete, Kiambu County are counting their blessings after receiving piped water for the first time since independence.

The feat was made possible by a charitable foundation seeking to avail water to over 500 households in the area.

The villagers have in the past survived on water drawn from wells and rivers, which sometimes is not safe for human consumption.

The villagers’ excitement was evident as they fully participated in the process of laying down plastic pipes and digging trenches that went over four kilometers.

The foundation also aims at ensuring that every household is connected to clean tap water by making use of a borehole that was sunk by Kabete CDF five years ago and left unattended.

The villagers have however requested for the completion of the water project, saying that many companies have previously come to region to initiate water supply projects but left most projects incomplete.

They also called upon the county Government of Kiambu to lend a hand in the project and subsidise the charges for water in the region.

Water scarcity was said to be the main reason for the lagging behind of Karura Kanyungu Village, with villagers lamenting that they could not get water to irrigate their farms.
