Vihiga Queens head coach Boniface Nyamunyauh has expressed confidence in his team’s ability to defeat Kibera Soccer Women in the upcoming FKF Women’s Cup final.

The four-time Kenyan Women's Premier League champions secured their spot in the final with a 2-1 victory over Bungoma Queens at the Mumias Sports Complex on Sunday.

In the other semifinal, Kibera Soccer Women, coached by David Vijago, beat Kenya Police Bullets 2-0 at Dandora Stadium.

The final, originally scheduled for Saturday, June 14 at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru, has been postponed by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to allow the national women’s team, Harambee Starlets, to participate in the 2025 CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship, which kicks off on Friday, June 13 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Nyamunyauh welcomed the postponement, noting that three of his key players, defender Alice Mideri, midfielder Martha Karani Amunyolete, and forward Swaum Masungo, have been called up to the national team, prompting the schedule change.

Kibera Soccer Women also have four players joining the Harambee Starlets: forward Faith Mboya, winger Janet Mumo, goalkeeper Vivian Shiyonzo, and midfielder Medina Abubakar.

“The postponement will give us ample time to prepare for the final, and I believe my three players will gain valuable experience with the national team, which will benefit us in the final,” Nyamunyauh said.

“Kibera is a very tough side, but we are determined to beat them. We’re currently reviewing footage of their semifinal match against Police Bullets to analyze their strengths and weaknesses,” he added.

Reflecting on their semifinal win, Nyamunyauh admitted that it was a tough match and highlighted areas his team must improve.

“Against Bungoma Queens, we identified several issues, especially in the striking department, where we missed many chances. Goalkeeping is also a concern we’re addressing.

By the time the final comes, we’ll be ready. I urge our fans to turn out in large numbers to support the team. I promise we won’t let them down,” the tactician affirmed.

This year’s cup will see new champions crowned after three-time winners Ulinzi Starlets were knocked out in the quarterfinals following a 4-3 loss to Kibera Soccer Women in a penalty shootout.

The FKF is expected to announce a new date for the final after the conclusion of the CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship in Tanzania.
