The United Opposition principals have reiterated their commitment to produce one presidential flagbearer to face off with President William Ruto at the ballot box in next year’s election, saying attempts to divide them will not succeed.
The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi
Gachagua, who led the outfit’s campaign in Kiambu County on Friday, slammed
political parties in the Mt. Kenya region, which he accused of being used by
President Ruto to split the opposition.
Gachagua, who opened a DCP office in Juja town and later led
a series of rallies across the vote-rich county, echoed the opposition’s
resolve to unite against Ruto at all costs.
“Nimekaa na Kalonzo, Sifuna na Eugene na tutakuwa na one
presidential candidate. Kasongo ahangaishwe asihangaishwe? Aende asiende?”
Gachagua stated.
Wiper Patriotic Party (WPF) leader Kalonzo Musyoka on his part
added, “Kenya yote imesema huyo jamaa aende nyumbani. Anauza nchi, hata juzi
alikuwa anauza uwanja wa ndege. Aende asiende? Tumekubaliana tutatoa mmoja wetu
Ruto aende nyumbani.”
“Siku zimebaki chache mtu anaitwa Ruto aende nyumbani. Mko
tayari kusimama na Gachagua? Wantam wantam!” DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa
stated.
The opposition leaders blamed President Ruto for allegedly
mismanaging the country, rallying residents to turn out and vote him out in
next year’s polls.
“Mwaka ujao nataka mjitokeze tupige Ruto risasi ya kura kwa
uchaguzi. Aende asiende?” Kalonzo stated.
During the meeting, Gachagua also trained his guns on
leaders in Mt. Kenya whom he accused of being used to divide the region,
singling out Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki and other political
leaders.
“Wewe soprano ukikuja hapa peana pesa ya kutosha. Unapewa
pesa na Kasongo unaficha zingine. Next time kuja na pesa ya kutosha. Kasongo
ameleta vyama vya wheelbarrow anataka kugawa mlima. Mtakubali wheelbarrow?" Gachagua posed.
The DCP leader maintained that his party remained the party
of choice in Mt. Kenya, pledging to conduct free and fair nominations.
