Ulinzi Warriors head coach Bernard Mufutu says his charges were not in their best element at the weekend as they succumbed to a league match defeat at the hands of newbies NBK Phoenix.
This was the soldiers last regular league match but they
fell 57-62 at Nyayo Gymnasium, leaving coach Mufutu with plenty to ponder
heading to the playoffs.
Despite showing a mixture of results throughout the season,
the team struggled to find rhythm in closing match ahead of playoffs, ending
the season eight points behind league leaders, Nairobi City Thunder.
“We played a terrible
game, too many turnovers, a lot of carelessness and you can’t win games like
that. We need to go back to the drawing board and be able to learn to play well
at a higher level consistently, especially as we prepare for the playoffs,”
Mufutu said.
Leading the table in the men’s premier league are defending
champions Nairobi City Thunder whose unbeaten record kept them at the top
of the standing with 44 points after winning all their 22 matches and now
awaits the playoffs.
Former champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) follow closely
with 39 points with one game to go. They have won 18 and lost three with second
position guaranteed for the Dockers.
Equity Dumas finished in the fourth position with 34 points
after winning 12 matches and losing 10.
