A section of residents from Eldoret City have protested the extension of Kipchoge Keino Stadium into a nearby cemetery, citing a lack of public participation.

Speaking in Eldoret, Huruma Ward MCA Kimani wa Wanjohi led the protest and said the move was undertaken without consulting affected communities.

Wanjohi noted that exhumation of bodies must be done under a court order, which has not been issued in this case.

Businesses and residents working close to the cemetery have called on the relevant authorities to engage all affected parties before proceeding.

Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret is currently under construction, with a perimeter fence being erected close to the cemetery.

Residents are demanding that due process be followed to respect the dignity of the deceased and the rights of the community.
