Ulinzi Starlets Coach Collins Ochieng targets Women’s Premier League title

Ulinzi Starlets head coach Collins Ochieng believes his side can clinch the FKF Women’s Premier League title this season after making a winning start to their campaign.

The Soldiers defeated Gideon Starlets 2-0 at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay County on Sunday, September 20, to register their first victory of the season.

Sharline Nambengele and Siliya Rasoha scored within two minutes of each other, finding the net in the 60th and 62nd minutes respectively, to secure all three points for Ulinzi Starlets.

“I want to congratulate my players for the win, which has increased our morale to win the title this season. That is our aim, and I believe we can achieve the dream if we maintain our winning streak. We had anticipated how our opponents would play and rectified our mistakes in the second half. That is why we managed to score two goals. We are now focused on our next fixture,” Ochieng said.

Ulinzi captain Diana Shakava was also pleased with the victory and urged her teammates to maintain their focus as they pursue their season ambitions.

“The game was not easy, and that is why we needed to score two goals to regain our confidence. That is the spirit this season. We want to keep winning and increase our chances of winning the title,” said Shakava.

Gideon Starlets coach Silas Wesechere said his team would learn from the defeat and work on the areas that need improvement ahead of their next fixture.

“I think there is a lot of improvement in the squad. Despite them beating us, we really tried to contain them. We have noted the areas I need to emphasise, and I believe in the next fixture we will win,” Wesechere said.

Elsewhere, Kenya Police thrashed Bungoma Queens 6-0 at Police Sacco Stadium, while Mathare United Women marked their return to the top flight with a 3-1 victory over four-time champions Vihiga Queens.

Trinity Starlets suffered a 1-0 defeat to Kibera Soccer Ladies, while Kayole Starlets and Shabana played out a 2-2 draw at Dandora Stadium.
