Police in Turkana South, Turkana County are holding four
suspects believed to be behind highway attacks along the Kainuk-Kaakong route.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, police said the suspects were
arrested at KWS area. Police recovered two guns and nine rounds of ammunition
following the operation led by Kainuk Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Haron
Odhiambo and Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU) commander Salah Mohammed.
In May this year, Rift Valley Regional Commissioner Maalim
Mohammed issued an order that would see a deployment of a multi-agency team in
the area.
“The Kitale-Lodwar stretch has claimed lives. The regional
security team was split into groups as they tracked down the highway robbers,”
Maalim said.
Maalim added that an operation is ongoing to ensure
that those in possession of illegal weapons will be arrested and prosecuted.
Meanwhile, the arrests come as a relief to motorists plying
the route, following months of living in fear.
