Tuju pleads not guilty to false information charge, freed on Ksh.100,000 bond

Tuju was accused of reporting an alleged abduction to a police officer in Karen, Nairobi, on March 1, 2026, information the prosecution says was false.

He denied the charge and pleaded not guilty

Through his lawyer Edward Oonge, Tuju asked the court to release him on bail, arguing that the offence is a misdemeanour and does not warrant continued detention.

The defence also asked the court to direct the OCS Karen to issue Tuju with a P3 form, claiming he sustained injuries while in custody and required the document for medical assessment and documentation.

The prosecution said it did not oppose Tuju’s release on cash bail, but urged the defence to make a formal application regarding a motor vehicle linked to the matter.

The state told the court the investigating officer must first establish whether the vehicle is being held as an exhibit, adding that the court could not address the issue at that stage without a proper application.

Trial magistrate Stella Atambo released Tuju on a personal bond of Sh100,000 and directed that witness statements and exhibits be supplied to the defence.

The court also directed the defence and the prosecution, through the investigating officer, to agree on the release of the vehicle if it is not an exhibit.

“If there’s no agreement then the defence should make an official application… so that the prosecution can reply on the day of the next hearing,” Atambo ruled.
