Traders in Ruai are counting losses after their market was demolished overnight by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA).
The traders have blamed the county government and their leaders for remaining silent.
Their stalls were demolished following KeNHA’s notice ordering them to vacate in order to pave way for a road project.
They have strongly criticized the police for alleged misuse of force, saying that instead of arresting criminals, officers lobbed tear gas at innocent residents and reportedly used live ammunition.
The traders also claim that land allocated to them along the bypass has been taken over by youths allegedly placed there by local politicians, who harass traders.
They are now calling on Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja to visit the market and provide clear and appropriate direction.
