President Uhuru Kenyatta has termed the festive season “a time to forgive” in his Christmas message to Kenyans on Sunday, and called for unity.

In his message delivered on Christmas Eve, President Kenyatta urged Kenyans to put past grudges behind them in a year that has seen the extended electioneering period divide Kenyans along political lines.

“This is not the time to look back; this is not the time to nurse the grudges of the past; this is the time to forgive,” said President Kenyatta in a televised address.

The head of state added that Kenyans should not let political, social and religious differences come between them.

“We hold fast to the truth that difference need not mean division. We hold to the truth that we can do far more together than we can apart,” he added.

The president also called on Kenyans to be responsible in their activities during this festive season and singled out road users.

“Friends, let us all be responsible this festive season, and more so, those of us who are driving. Take care of yourselves, and your fellow countrymen and women, in all your journeys this festive season.”
