President William Ruto has again defended his frequent foreign trips amid growing criticism from the opposition and some Kenyans over the misuse of public funds.

The Head of State insists that his travels are aimed at advancing Kenya's development agenda and securing opportunities that benefit citizens.

His recent trips abroad, including visits to South Africa and Europe, with another trip expected for the G7 Summit in France, have sparked criticism from some opposition leaders and Kenyans, who argue that the travels place an unnecessary burden on taxpayers.

Speaking during a fundraiser at the SDA Church in Nkashura, Kajiado County, President Ruto maintained that his mission is to steer the country towards higher levels of economic growth and development.

He maintained that the visits are not luxury excursions, but strategic engagements aimed at driving Kenya's development agenda and attracting partnerships that can transform the country's fortunes.

"Sometimes they ask why the President has travelled abroad or met leaders from different parts of the world. That is the job I was elected to do," he said.

The President says he will not relent in pursuing international partnerships, arguing that such engagements are already yielding tangible benefits for Kenyans.

He also took a swipe at his critics, accusing them of lacking a clear development agenda.

"Some say I am always travelling on holiday. If you want a holiday, go on holiday. My diary is booked six months ahead. Transforming this country requires hard work."

President Ruto also backed the Ksh.4.8 trillion 2026/27 National Budget tabled by Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi on June 11, saying the spending plan prioritises key sectors such as education, healthcare and affordable housing.

"If you look at the education sector, we have added Sh80 billion more than last year and over Ksh.200 billion since 2022. That is a clear testament to our commitment to education if we want to take this country forward," President Ruto added.
