Three suspects have been arrested in Ichuga area along the Laikipia–Nyeri border after police recovered 18 kilogrammes of suspected cannabis in a joint anti-narcotics operation by officers from the two counties.

Kieni East OCPD David Maina said officers first recovered several rolls of the substance being sold at a local shop before a suspect led them to a house where the illegal business was allegedly being run.

Police said the suspects initially refused to surrender, forcing officers to throw teargas canisters into the house before breaking in and arresting them.

During the raid, police said they recovered 692 rolls of suspected cannabis, three kilogrammes of unprocessed narcotics, one kilogramme of cannabis seeds and six stones of the substance, each weighing about three kilogrammes, bringing the total haul to 18 kilogrammes.

Investigators said the suspects are believed to have been involved in both retail and commercial distribution.

Laikipia East OCPD Daniel Kitavi said security operations against drug trafficking will continue in the region, adding that those involved will be arrested and prosecuted.

Police said the recovered drugs were secured as exhibits as detectives continue investigations.
