Detectives in Nairobi on Sunday nabbed three suspects and recovered over 30 mobile phones suspected to have been stolen.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspects identified as Michael Waweru, Wilson Wanjama and Samuel Kimani were cornered when detectives pursued leads all the way from Murang'a county.

"Acting on actionable intelligence, detectives from Murang’a East Sub-County, working alongside their counterparts from DCI Central Nairobi, today descended on the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD), where they arrested three suspects identified as Michael Waweru, Wilson Wanjama and Samuel Kimani," DCI said.

The trail began with a break-in and theft from a locked motor vehicle in Murang’a in May 2025. This led the DCI sleuths to Nairobi, where the three were found with 32 phones, a MacBook laptop, a cash-counting machine, 22 assorted empty mobile-phone boxes bearing no IMEI numbers, two counter books, five small books, two notebooks and 12 receipt books, items believed to be linked to the handling, packaging and sale of illegally obtained mobile phones.

DCI says the recovery of the packaging materials and business records adds another layer to the investigation, as they work to establish the origin, ownership and movement of the recovered devices and determine their possible connection to other theft cases.
The suspects have since been escorted back to Murang’a Police Station, where they remain in custody as detectives process them ahead of their arraignment.
