Third suspect in lawyer Kyalo Mbobu murder arrested

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a third suspect in connection with the murder of lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu, nearly a year after he was shot dead along Magadi Road in Nairobi.

The latest suspect has been identified as Noah Kipkirui Langat, a boda boda rider suspected of conducting surveillance on Mbobu before the fatal shooting on September 9, 2025.

Langat’s arrest comes hours after detectives arrested Police Constable Julius Cheruiyot, whom they suspect was the gunman, and boda boda rider Nicholas Lemiso Naula, who is accused of ferrying Cheruiyot to and from the scene.

According to the DCI, the three suspects are now in custody as investigators pursue other people suspected to have been involved in the killing.

Cheruiyot was arrested after detectives linked him to the murder following a year-long investigation. A Ceska pistol issued to him was recovered and subjected to ballistic examination, which established that it was the firearm used in the killing.

Lemiso, who was arrested in Nairobi’s Central Business District, is suspected of transporting Cheruiyot before and after the shooting.

The DCI had also identified Inspector Kenneth Sang, who remains at large, as a person who allegedly coordinated the operation together with Rose Mbithe, who is already in custody over the murder of Dr. Victoria Nthunya Mutiso in July 2026.

Mbobu was shot while driving home from work along Magadi Road on September 9, 2025.

With three suspects now in custody, detectives are continuing with investigations as they seek to establish the full circumstances surrounding the lawyer’s murder and identify other people who may have been involved.
