Boda boda rider linked to lawyer Kyalo Mbobu murder arrested

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested another suspect in connection with the murder of lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu, hours after a police officer was arrested over the September 2025 killing.

The latest suspect, identified as Nicholas Lemiso Naula, was arrested on Thursday within Nairobi’s Central Business District as detectives widened their investigations into the murder.

According to the DCI, Lemiso is a boda boda rider who allegedly ferried Police Constable Julius Cheruiyot to and from the scene of the shooting.

Cheruiyot was arrested on Thursday morning after detectives linked him to the killing following a year-long investigation.

Detectives said they recovered the Ceska pistol issued to Cheruiyot at the time of the incident, which ballistic examination established was the firearm used in the murder.

The DCI had also identified Inspector Kenneth Sang, who remains at large, as a person who allegedly coordinated the operation together with Rose Mbithe, who is already in custody over the murder of Dr. Victoria Nthunya Mutiso in July 2026.

Mbobu was shot while driving home from work along Magadi Road in Nairobi on September 9, 2025.

The DCI said Lemiso and Cheruiyot are currently in custody as detectives pursue additional leads and seek to establish the full circumstances surrounding the lawyer’s murder.
