Residents of Kabobuani in Marimanti Ward, Tharaka Nithi County, are calling for an electricity connection, saying the lack of power is hurting businesses, education and employment opportunities.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, residents said some businesses have been forced to operate under difficult conditions, affecting their livelihoods.

They also said pupils in the area struggle to study at night due to inadequate lighting.

The residents further raised concerns over youths trained in electrical-related courses who are unable to secure employment locally, with some forced to travel long distances in search of work.

They are now calling on their leaders to support efforts to connect Kabobuani to the national electricity grid, saying access to power would boost businesses, improve learning and create opportunities for skilled youths.
