Tharaka residents call for suspension of public rallies to tame Ebola spread

Residents of Tharaka in Tharaka Nithi County are calling on the county and national governments to work together to prevent the spread of Ebola following confirmation of Kenya's first case, according to Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale.
The residents say they fear a repeat of the disruptions witnessed during the COVID-19 pandemic, when quarantine measures were imposed, and several businesses were forced to close.
They are now urging the government to consider suspending public meetings and political rallies, saying such gatherings could provide opportunities for the spread of the disease.
The residents say they are raising the concerns early, warning that a wider outbreak could make it more difficult for the government to contain the disease.
