Police officers in Nakuru County are holding a 33-year-old man on allegations of arms dealing.

John Mbuthia, a scrap metal dealer, was arrested after members of the public raised alarm over suspicious luggage at his yard in Langa Langa estate.

Police recovered thousands of spent bullet cartridges and bullet carbides together with copper wires suspected to have been vandalized from Kenya Power transformers.

Rift Valley Regional DCIO Mwenda Meme said the man is suspected to be among a group that has been supplying bandits in Laikipia, Baringo and West Pokot counties with weapons.

The police have since launched a manhunt for a female accomplice suspected to be the mastermind behind the trade.

The suspect is set to be arraigned at Nakuru Law Courts on Wednesday.
