Summon Gachagua over murder of Dr Victoria Mutiso; Savula tells DCI

Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula has asked the Director of Criminal Investigations to summon former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to record statements over the murder of Dr Victoria Mutiso.

This follows revelations by DCI boss Mohamed Amin that the former DP was in phone communication with key suspects.

Addressing the press on Friday, DCI Director Mohamed Amin claimed investigators had established communication between Gachagua and one of the key suspects.

Speaking during a women’s economic empowerment forum in Among’ura area of Teso South Constituency, Busia County, Savula has said that Gachagua is either a suspect or an accomplice and should be dealt with according to the Law.

"Instead of assisting the police with the investigation into the murder of that doctor who died in Nairobi, he is talking to suspects on the phone. He is the one coordinating the cover-up, so that the case of that woman who was killed does not proceed properly in court," alleged Savula.

The deputy governor said Gachagua must record a statement as a person of interest in the murder case. 

"I will ask the DCI: Rigathi is not above the law. Summon Rigathi by Monday to record a statement and tell us what he knows about the death of that doctor. Why? He is either an accomplice or a suspect. Those are the two possibilities," he said. 

After Amin's revelation, Gachagua dared the DCI to travel to his Wamunyoro home and record his statement over alleged communication with suspects linked to the murder of researcher Dr. Victoria Mutiso.

"I was in Wamunyoro, and if there was someone who called you, come to my place and write a statement because I cannot come to DCI or to the police; I am past that level; I am now at the level of a president. Kenyans are not fools, Mr Amin,” said Gachagua.
