'Style up!' Kenyans cook Nyandarua Senator Methu for taking selfies with Mozambican President

Recently, the Senator, a close ally of President William Ruto, was assigned the duties of 'escorting' the visiting Mozambique President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi who was in the country for the inaugural Africa Climate Summit.

As anyone else would, Muhia took photos of them in meetings and private sessions and then went ahead to share them with his social media followers. 

But as the official Escort of Honor, Muhia also broke unwritten protocol when he decided to steal a quick selfie while the two were seated at the back seat of the official SUV. 

While narrating the experience, the Senator divulged that he had had an opportunity to tap into the President's very rich political experience and his belief in strong political parties.

"It was a great moment of diplomatic learning since we received him at the JKIA Presidential Pavilion, to his hotel to have breakfast with him, to drive with him to KICC for the African Climate Summit," he said.

"I have later seen him off and will pay him a visit in Maputo to deepen the relationship."

Kenyans, however, were majorly displeased with his conduct while seeing off the visiting Head of State - stealing a quick, almost-grainy selfie.

In the selfie, a rather unamused President Filipe is seen blankly looking into the camera as the senator struggles to edge closer for that perfect shot. 

Reacting to the selfie, X (formerly Twitter) bigwig and blogger Lord Mutai said, "Bro, ukipata chance ya Ku-escort a President, don't ask for selfies. This is totally childish!"

Other Kenyans roundly agreed with Mutai, saying that, as an Escort of Honor, and a leader at that, one ought to conduct themselves with a certain degree of decorum and not act too excited in the presence of foreign leaders.

X user @WesleyKibande said," Bana! Are you there for his security or your fantasy?! "

On his part, user @oldmanbondeo said, "You can take a man out of the village, but you can't take the village out of the man. Ushamba mtupu!"

While yet another user @maxmius added, "One thing I never think of when wining and dining with the high and mighty. The moment you brandish your phone for a selfie, the more you seem out of place!"

Methu, however, found a little support from several Kenyans who felt that he was merely a young man finding his path in life and that nothing is ever that serious.

"You may be right, but I choose to let the senator be...We perfect as we go. This narrative of being too organized, too eloquent, too perfect leads so many to the wrong path. The only place where people get 100% perfection is 6 feet under..there, they rest...maybe..., " responded David Mwangi.

Other, also, lauded President Ruto for 'believing in young people'.

"This shows that Ruto has faith in young leaders. This is actually commendable. Wacha hasira boss," said Brenda Wachira.
