Kenyan musician Steven Otieno, popularly
known as Stivo Simple Boy, has revealed that after receiving lucrative
endorsements, he built a home for his parents in the village.
The ‘Vijana tuache mihadarati’ hitmaker revealed
that he used funds he received from an advertising deal that he procured with
his old management to build the house.
The fast-rising rapper
said in an interview with ‘Iko Nini’ podcast that
he secured a part in an advertisement for a betting company and
earned about Ksh.500,000, which he used to support his parents.
“It was half a million that was for
the ad…Nilishika hizo pesa nikajengea wazazi nyumba ushago,” he said.
Does this imply that making music
is profitable? Stivo gave his stamp of approval.
“Usanii unalipa ukiwa humble.
Kama hauna vituko mingi ohh na ma clout mingi inalipa, ukitulia tu,” he stated.
Stivo also revealed
that he was forced to remove the name of the late president Mwai Kibaki from a
verse of his latest hit, ‘Freshi barida.’
He disclosed that the
song's audio was prepared, but Kibaki passed away before it could be released, which
worried the vocalist hence out of respect, they decided to leave it out.
"Tulisema hapo
kwa Kibaki wacha tu mute coz italeta maneno mengi. Ukiskia kwa io ngoma, utaskia
ki ki ki,” he said.
