Ballot boxes and election materials have been distributed to polling stations across Emurua Dikirr Constituency, ahead of the Thursday by-election.

Five candidates are in the race to succeed the late MP Johanna Ngeno, who died in a plane crash in February this year.

The distribution of election materials to 94 polling stations across Emurua Dikirr Constituency kicked off at 2 p.m. from the tallying centre at Emurua Dikirr Technical Training Institute.

IEBC officials were seen collecting ballot materials under tight security as preparations for the mini poll gathered pace.

The constituency returning officer, Caleb Gikonde, says a total of 44,353 registered voters are expected to take part in the by-election.

The by-election will be conducted across four wards: Mogondo, Kapsasian, Ilkerin and Ololmasani.

The five candidates cleared by the IEBC are Vincent Rotich of DCP, David Keter of UDA, Desma Cherono of PNU, Gideon Koech of NVPK and Kenneth Kiprono of RLP.

Religious leaders led by Richard Mutai, the Chairperson of the Transmara Pastors Association, have called for peace and adherence to IEBC regulations during the exercise, as residents expressed hopes for transformative leadership from the candidate who will emerge victorious.
