Harambee Starlets are turning their focus to improving
efficiency in front of goal after finishing runners-up in the inaugural 2026
FIFA Series.
Kenya fell 2-0 to Australia’s Matildas in the final at Nyayo
National Stadium, with Sam Kerr opening the scoring in the 25th minute before
Clare Wheeler sealed the win early in the second half.
Despite the defeat, the Starlets created several scoring
chances but were unable to convert, partly courtesy of a disciplined Australian
backline, highlighting a key area for improvement ahead of upcoming
competitions.
Head coach Beldine Odemba admitted that finishing remains a
concern as the team builds towards the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
"We got a lot of chances again, we keep on getting a
lot of chances. Now we really need to work on capitalizing on the chances. One
chance, one goal is what we need to produce,” she said.
Odemba also praised the strong fan turnout, noting the value
of playing in a high-pressure environment as the team continues to grow.
“We had a great atmosphere. It's been long since we played
in a stadium that is this big. And we are happy that fans turned out for
us," she added.
The tournament has provided a crucial test for the Starlets, with the technical bench now expected to focus on sharpening their attack and improving composure ahead of WAFCON.
