In a statement, Sonko clarified that no officials had been elected or officially nominated to the NEDP leadership structure in Kwale County, despite reports suggesting otherwise following the event attended by party officials.
The former Nairobi governor said the delegation led by NEDP Secretary General Ben Mulwa and Executive Director Dan Onsomu had only attended the official launch of the party’s Ukunda offices and had not conducted any leadership appointments.
“We wish to clarify that no one has been elected or officially nominated into the Kwale County party leadership structure at this stage,” Sonko stated.
He further announced that any positions purportedly issued during the event had been cancelled pending the party’s official procedures.
“All county leadership positions shall be filled through a free, fair, and democratic process by the party. Therefore, any positions announced today are null, void, and hereby revoked pending the official party process,” he said.
Sonko reaffirmed the party’s commitment to inclusivity, describing NEDP as a movement open to all Kenyans regardless of race, tribe, gender, ethnicity, or age.
He also invited aspirants interested in contesting on the party ticket in future elections to engage with party structures and leadership as NEDP continues expanding its grassroots networks across the country.
“At NEDP, the voice of the people matters most, and the candidate chosen by the people will proudly fly our party flag when the time comes,” Sonko added.
The clarification comes as NEDP intensifies efforts to strengthen its presence in various counties ahead of future political contests.
