The late Rev. Charles Kituku Muthusi, the preacher who was found murdered inside a maize plantation a week ago in Kawethei, Machakos County, has been laid to rest, as it emerged that the main suspect behind his killing is his nephew.

A sombre mood engulfed the funeral service as different speakers eulogised the deceased man of the cloth. The suspect's family was also in attendance.

Rev. Phillip Muthusi, the deceased's brother, said the suspect who has since been arrested is a known drug user who has been in and out of rehab for years.

Rev. Philip likewise urged the youth to refrain from abusing drugs and alcohol saying they do more harm than good.

Eva Nkirote, the deceased's widow, on her part noted that her husband's death left a huge void in her heart but that she will always cherish the time they spent together.

She added that Charles was a beacon of light and a gentle soul.

The deceased was found murdered a fortnight ago at a maize plantation near his family home in Kawethei.

The suspect remains in police custody as investigations into the killing continue.
