Six people accused of
being behind the fatal shooting of a police officer on Sunday night in the Freehold
area of Nakuru town will be detained for the next 30 days to enable the
investigation officer to carry out the investigations.
The officer was shot dead during a patrol after
being ambushed alongside his two colleagues, who were left injured.
Principal Magistrate Vincent Adet on Tuesday said that the reasons advanced by
the investigations officer to hold the suspects are compelling and would grant
the orders to ensure that the officers have time to undertake all the
investigations including ballistic examinations, parade identification, mental
assessment as well as statements from the witnesses.
The six include John
Njau Ndungu, Chacha Peter Marwa, William Nyahili Rioba, Emmanual Muita Muita,
Nyahili Nyamuhaga Magige, and Catherine Nkatha Zakayo.
They were presented
before the court on Tuesday, although they were not charged.
All the suspects,
except Catherine Nkatha, did not object to the orders.
Following their arrest,
the suspects led the officers to where an AK-47, believed to be the murder
weapon used, was found.
An earlier report from
the Bondeni Police Station noted that the suspects were also found with
four mobile phones, assorted SIM cards, bus tickets, and a motorcycle.
