Six Kisii County revenue collectors were on Tuesday arrested at Keroka Town for allegedly going beyond their areas of jurisdiction while undertaking their duties.

The arrest sparked off protests from Kisii MCAs who stormed the Kisii Central Police Station demanding the release of four out of the six detainees.

The MCAs led by Kisii County Budget Committee Chair Dennis Ombacho said they were advocating for peace in the region and urged their counterparts from Nyamira County to settle for peace.

“We want to inform our colleagues from Nyamira County that we are ready for peaceful negotiations. Let them approach us to settle this matter,” he said.

The bone of contention was the scramble for Keroka Town with  both Kisii and Nyamira Counties claiming that the town is within their boundaries.

This tussle comes months after Kisii Governor James Ongwae and his Nyamira counterpart John Nyagarama agreed to share revenue collected from the town.
