Simiyu over the moon after making CAF Confederation Cup debut

Tusker forward Ian Simiyu has expressed his delight after making his first appearance in the CAF Confederation Cup, describing the experience as the fulfillment of one of his football dreams.  

‎Simiyu was part of the Tusker squad that eliminated Sudanese side Al-Ahli Wad Medani to book a place in the second round of the Confederation Cup qualifiers.

‎The forward says featuring in continental competition represents an important milestone in his career and has given him an opportunity to test himself at a higher level.

‎“It is one of the dreams I have had as a footballer; we are taking one match at a time and giving our best. By doing so, the results will just come, I did not score, but at the right time I will,” Simiyu said.

‎The Tusker attacker believes playing in international competitions will help him showcase his abilities while gaining valuable experience.

‎Simiyu is also hoping to use the continental platform to attract interest from clubs outside Africa as he continues to develop his career.

‎“It is a good platform for me to show what I can do and gain more experience. I also hope that by performing well, I can attract opportunities from clubs outside Africa and even be seen worldwide,” he added.

‎Tusker will now face Tanzanian outfit Singida Black Stars in the second qualifying round after overcoming Al-Ahli Wad Medani.

‎The Kenyan side will be aiming to maintain their momentum against Singida as they seek to progress further in the Confederation Cup.

Simiyu is confident Tusker have what it takes to overcome their Tanzanian opponents and continue their continental campaign.

‎“We have to give our best because Singida Black Stars are a good team. But I believe we have the quality to get a positive result and progress to the next round,” Simiyu said.

‎The tie will provide Simiyu and his teammates with another opportunity to gain international experience while pursuing Tusker’s ambitions of advancing deeper into the CAF Confederation Cup.
