She is serving her second term as MP for Samburu West. However, Naisula Lesuuda’s journey started in the newsroom, rising from an intern to a celebrated media personality before making the leap into politics.
Her first major political role came as a nominated Senator - she was the youngest at the time in 2013. The role gave her a foothold in a political arena largely dominated by men.

She went on to contest the Samburu West parliamentary seat in 2017 and won despite running in an area that is widely patriarchal. She successfully defended the seat in the subsequent election in 2022.

On this week’s She Means Business, Lesuuda speaks about the journey from the newsroom to Parliament, the challenges of seeking political office as a woman and what it takes to overcome perceptions and expectations that can stand in the way of women’s political ambitions.
