A woman has moved
to court seeking more than KSh1.2 million from Kiambu Woman Representative Anne
Wanjiku Muratha after she was dismissed from her position as a Coordinator.
Jackline Nyambura
Wanjiku has sued Muratha at the Employment and Labour Relations Court in
Kiambu, seeking KSh630,000 in compensation for unfair termination, KSh52,500 in
lieu of notice, KSh29,750 in unpaid salary and KSh567,300 in gratuity under her
two employment contracts.
Wanjiku was
summarily dismissed on July 17, 2026, over allegations of absenteeism,
insubordination, neglect of duty and conduct inconsistent with the obligations
of her office.
Through her lawyer
Paul Macharia, Wanjiku has denied the allegations, arguing that they were false
and that she was dismissed without being issued with a notice to show cause or
given an opportunity to defend herself at a disciplinary hearing.
She says she worked
continuously in Muratha's office from October 2022, initially earning a monthly
salary of KSh50,000 before signing a second contract in July 2025 at a salary
of KSh52,500.
Wanjiku is asking
the court to order her reinstatement as Coordinator without loss of salary,
seniority or benefits.
Alternatively, she
wants compensation for unfair termination, payment of accrued leave, a
Certificate of Service, interest and costs of the suit.
She has also filed
a separate application seeking orders barring Muratha from advertising,
recruiting or filling the Coordinator position pending the hearing and
determination of the case.
Wanjiku argues that
appointing another person to the position could prejudice her claim for
reinstatement.
