Sakaja reacts to the garbage menace in Nairobi

Sakaja, who was responding to questions about Pipeline Estate, where residents are said to be suffocating in filth and piling garbage, stated that the plight affects much of Nairobi.

"Not just Pipeline Estate. A lot of Nairobi has been like this," Sakaja Tweeted in reply to a Nation article on the sorry state of affairs in Pipeline. 

Governor Sakaja  blamed the garbage menace on the previous administration, saying the latest is  as a result of neglect, illegal dumping and contractors downing their tools over unpaid dues totaling  to Ksh.3B. 

"A lot of Nairobi has been like this. Months of neglect, illegal dumping in undesignated sites, garbage contractors downing their tools due to money owed," he added

According to Sakaja, his administration has collected at least 70 tonnes of garbage since taking over, and efforts are underway to find a long-term solution.
