President William Ruto has dismissed allegations that the government plans to ban the livestreaming of election results, accusing opposition leaders of "spreading propaganda."
The president warned the opposition against rallying the youth around misinformation, even as he defended the sale of Kenya Pipeline shares by state institutions to billionaire Aliko Dangote.
In denying that there is a plot by the executive and legislature to amend the law governing the livestreaming of election results, President Ruto dismissed the allegations as propaganda.
"Walitumia hiyo propaganda moja kupinga Finance Bill 2024... Saa hii tena wanatumia propaganda ati kuna njama ya kubadilisha election results livestream," said Ruto.
While attending a church service at AIC Kasina in Mwingi, Kitui County, on the second day of his Ukambani tour, President William Ruto warned the opposition against rallying the youth on misinformation.
"Nonsense, useless propaganda."
The National Assembly on Friday dismissed the claims as fake, stating: "The amendment passed by the National Assembly retained the requirement on the IEBC to establish a mechanism for the livestreaming of election results."
The president also hit out at People's Party of Kenya leader Ndindi Nyoro over his opposition to the acquisition of 25 percent of Kenya Pipeline shares by Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote.
"Huyo ni chief shylock na broker anayelenga kutapeli wawekezaji... Sitawaruhusu... Wanataka ku-extort investors," Ruto added.
The head of state dismissed the opposition as visionless tribal chiefs out to divide Kenyans.
"Hawana sera, hawana maoni, wako chini wale majamaa."
The president concluded the second day of his Ukambani tour by inspecting several projects, including flagging off electrification materials for 3,000 households set for electricity connection by REREC in the area.
