A clinical brace from Fidel Omondi, alongside goals from David Mayson and Jackson Watee, powered the hosts to an emphatic victory that strengthens their grip at the top of the table.
Kisumu All Stars nearly stunned the home crowd early on. In the 10th minute, Eugene Ochieng found himself just three yards from goal but blazed his effort over the bar in what proved to be a costly miss.
United responded with composure and precision. In the 24th minute, David Mayson rose highest to meet Steve Nyagol’s corner, calmly heading home to hand the hosts the lead and settle early nerves.
The coastal side maintained their momentum and doubled their advantage just before halftime. Midfielder Kevin Okoth threaded a perfect pass to Fidel Omondi, who coolly curled the ball past goalkeeper Billy Bukhala in a one-on-one situation to make it 2–0 at the break.
Kisumu returned from halftime with renewed energy, pressing forward in search of a lifeline. However, United’s defensive line stood firm, absorbing pressure and denying clear opportunities.
Omondi had two quick chances in the 70th minute to extend the lead but failed to convert from close range. Still, United’s dominance never wavered.
With eight minutes remaining, substitute Jackson Watee connected brilliantly with Felix Ochieng’s cross to put the result beyond doubt. Moments later, in the final kick of the game, Omondi completed his brace with a powerful low strike from inside the six-yard box, sealing a resounding 4–0 triumph and three crucial home points.
Mombasa United head coach Gilbert Selebwa praised his team’s focus and execution.
“I’m very happy with the win. After last week’s break, this shows we picked up right where we left off. We played according to plan, pressed them in their half, and got the goals we needed.”
Kisumu All Stars head coach Duncan Omondi sounded philosophical in defeat.
“In football, you either win, draw, or lose. We had a long journey but we played well. The referees handled the match fairly. It wasn’t our day, but we will fight another day.”
