Ruthimitu ring war bells ahead of Term Two National Games

Head coach Gideon Njine says the 2023 champions will go all out for the title, sounding a warning to rivals who underrate them.

Ruthimitu earned their national ticket after edging perennial rivals Hospital Hill 3-1 in a thrilling final to clinch the Nairobi regional title a month ago, and Njine believes the team can replicate their regional dominance at the national stage.

“We are ready for the championship. I remember in 2023 when people underrated us and we ended up winning. We are looking toward repeating the same feat,” said Njine.

The Nairobi giants won the 2023 KSSSA national boys' volleyball title in style by beating Andersen High School 3-2 in a thrilling five-setter.

The team are currently sharpening their claws ahead of the five-day extravaganza, paying close attention to the blocks and back-court defence, which have been their undoing.

Njine, who also serves as the national U-20 head coach, hopes his side can remain injury-free in their quest for the title.

“The training has been good and we’ve prepared the boys well. We have worked on our weaknesses in net and back-court defence and we are ready to go.”

The Dagoretti-based school, open their campaign against Malava Boys of Western on Sunday, before facing Moi Forces Academy and Eastern region champions Matiliku Boys in Pool B.

Njine hopes they can serve off their campaign on a high by upsetting the five-time national champions.

“We are in a pool of death and we know Malava are national giants. However, we are going to give everything on the court,” said Njine.
