Rising star Kevin Chepsergon Chesang delivered a commanding performance to win the men’s 10,000m at the 7th edition of the Kip Keino Classic, underlining his growing reputation as one of Kenya’s most exciting long-distance prospects.

The 20-year-old clocked an impressive 28:31.50 to cross the line first in a tightly contested national event, holding off a strong field that included Kipkandie Mkulia (28:36.37) and Kiboino Charles (28:37.81), who finished second and third respectively.

Chesang’s victory marks another significant milestone in what has been a rapid rise through the ranks.

Having already shown promise on the cross country circuit, including a second-place finish at the 2025 National Cross Country Championships behind Daniel Simiu Ebenyo, the young athlete is quickly translating that form onto the track.

Speaking after the race, Chesang remained composed but confident about his performance and preparation.

“The field was competitive but all along I knew I would be determined to win. Training in a high camp field in Eldama Ravine enabled me embrace today’s conditions and I am very happy for the win,” he said.

The win comes just weeks after he posted a personal best of 28:38.52 in April, a time he has now significantly improved, signaling strong progression in his endurance and race execution.

A product of the Townhall Sinonin Camp, Chesang has balanced his athletics career with academics in recent years, having competed at the senior level while still a student—an indicator of both discipline and raw talent.

His recent selection to represent Kenya at the 2026 World Athletics Cross Country Championships further highlights the faith selectors have in his ability.
