Residents of Gatundu North Constituency are set to benefit from enjoy easier and faster access to land services following the official opening of the Kamwangi Lands Registry by Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome and Lands and Physical Planning Principal Secretary Generali Nixon Korir.

The newly established registry is expected to serve more than 30,000 residents, marking a significant step in the Government's efforts to decentralize land administration, improve service delivery, and bring essential services closer to wananchi.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, CS Wahome praised Gatundu North Member of Parliament Elijah Njoroge (Kururia) for spearheading the project, describing the facility as a testament to the Government's commitment to enhancing public access to services.

"I am delighted that Kamwangi Lands Registry is now operational and ready to serve over 30,000 residents. This demonstrates the Government's commitment to bringing services closer to the people and ensuring every Kenyan can conveniently access land-related services," she said.

Earlier in the day, the CS toured the ongoing construction of Gatukuyu, Kanyoni, and Kamwangi markets, projects expected to boost local commerce, create jobs, and improve livelihoods within the constituency.

She reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to accelerating land reforms and the digitization of land records nationwide, noting that the initiative will improve efficiency, enhance document security, and curb land-related fraud.

"We are committed to digitizing land records across the country to improve efficiency, safeguard documents, and eliminate opportunities for land fraud. Our goal is to build a modern, transparent, and accessible land administration system," she added.

PS Korir commended MP Njoroge for facilitating the project through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), saying the new registry aligns with the Government's broader agenda of transforming land administration and expanding access to public services.

"The establishment of Kamwangi Lands Registry is part of our broader agenda to transform land administration and improve access to services. We want residents to spend less time and money seeking services and more time investing in their land and improving their livelihoods," he said.

The Principal Secretary further highlighted the Ministry's nationwide digitization programme, which seeks to secure land records and strengthen public confidence in land transactions.

Welcoming the opening of the registry, MP Njoroge noted that residents will no longer be required to travel to Kiambu or Gatundu South to access critical land services.

"This registry is a major relief to our people. Residents will no longer incur unnecessary costs and spend valuable time travelling long distances in search of land services. We appreciate the Ministry for partnering with us to make this dream a reality," he said.

Deputy County Commissioner for Gatundu North Margaret Mbugua used the occasion to issue a stern warning against individuals involved in the illegal acquisition of land belonging to widows and other vulnerable members of society.

"Those taking advantage of widows and vulnerable families to unlawfully acquire their land should know that the law will catch up with them. We will continue protecting the rights of all landowners and ensuring justice prevails," she said.

The event was attended by Thika Town MP Alice Ng'ang'a, Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, local leaders, and residents.

The opening of the Kamwangi Lands Registry underscores the Government's continued efforts to strengthen land governance, improve service delivery, and promote inclusive development through accessible and efficient public services.
