Kevin Maina, alias Maina Mind, wears different hats. He is an actor, journalist and poet whose creative works have kept many Kenyans glued to the screens.

“I was born and raised in Nakuru by my mother until she passed away when I was just nine years old,” says Maina.

The weight and pain of grief of losing his mother at such a young age had a profound effect on him.

“I didn’t know how to process the grief, and for quite some time, I didn’t want sympathy or even show my grieving. Then I realised that I had to deal with the grief, which was quite profound,” says Maina Mind.

This would later inspire his poem titled -- ‘Faded’ – which spoke about the heavy subject of losing someone you care about, you love, twice.

As a poet, his journey began on campus, running a poetry podcast.

He composed poems touching on just about anything that came to his mind, the nickname Maina Mind.

Over the years, Maina has become a darling of many lovers of good art.

The girls love him, and many adore him. As an actor, he plays the role of a ‘boy toy’ who is into older women in the show “Single Kiasi”.

Maina spoke to Citizen Digital about his incredible life journey.
