Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier has raised fresh concerns over refereeing standards in the FKF Premier League, just days before the highly anticipated Mashemeji Derby set for Sunday, April 26.

Rachier questioned the consistency of officiating decisions, warning that errors at this stage of the season could have a major impact on the title race and league standings.

“Are we as football stakeholders in this country satisfied with the level of officiating of football in the country?” he posed.

His remarks follow a controversial moment in Gor Mahia’s clash with Bandari FC at Kasarani last weekend, where a penalty initially awarded to K’Ogalo in the 83rd minute was later overturned after consultation—sparking debate among fans and stakeholders.

The match ended in a goalless draw, denying Gor the chance to extend their lead at the summit of the league.

Rachier called for greater accountability from match officials, insisting that rules must be applied fairly across the board.

“We have laws that we expect the federation must enforce. Justice must be done not just for Gor Mahia, but for every team in the league. We are not asking you to bend the rules but observe them,” he said.

He also urged authorities to consider more affordable ticket pricing ahead of major fixtures, like the Mashemeji Derbies, citing the economic strain on fans.

At the same time, Rachier appealed for calm among supporters ahead of and during Sunday’s derby against AFC Leopards, emphasizing the need for discipline despite the intense rivalry.

With tensions rising ahead of the Mashemeji Derby, stakeholders are now training their eyes firmly on officiating standards and fan conduct to ensure a fair and incident-free showdown.
