Internal Security and National Administration Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo has led a high-level Kenyan delegation to Rome, Italy, on a benchmarking mission aimed at informing the establishment of the proposed Nairobi Metropolitan Police Unit.
The
visit is part of the government's efforts to strengthen urban security and
improve coordination among security agencies operating within the Nairobi
Metropolitan Area.
According
to the Ministry of Interior, the delegation is studying Italy's internal
security framework, which is widely regarded for its multi-agency and layered
approach to public safety.
Italy's
Ministry of Interior oversees a broad range of responsibilities, including
public security, policing, migration management, public order, civil protection
and territorial administration.
During
the mission, the Kenyan team is engaging with various Italian security
institutions to gain insights into how Rome manages security challenges within
a complex urban environment.
The
government says lessons drawn from Rome's security model will help shape the
structure and operations of the planned Nairobi Metropolitan Police Unit.
The
proposed unit is expected to enhance public safety, strengthen crime prevention
efforts, improve emergency response capabilities and streamline service
delivery for residents across the Nairobi metropolitan region.
