Residents of Huruma estate in Nairobi took to the streets on Wednesday to protest the shooting of a 14-year-old boy.

The boy was allegedly shot by a police officer who was attempting to disperse a rowdy crowd that had tried to block detectives from arresting suspected robbers.

Running battles were witnessed in the area as residents clashed with police, accusing officers of using excessive force during the operation.

Another resident, Leonard Makokha, claimed the officer fired into the air but ended up hitting the minor.

Hivo ndio alitoa bunduki aka shoot juu. Kumbe ame shoot mtoto," he stated.

The suspects are said to have resisted arrest, sparking chaos as residents began hurling stones in an attempt to stop the operation, prompting officers to fire shots to disperse the crowd.

The boy’s father said the officer responsible fled the scene and has yet to be apprehended.

Saa hii hatembei," he stated.

Elsewhere, Garissa Governor Nathif Jama condemned the killing of 24-year-old Aden Mohammed Hassan, who was shot dead on Tuesday, describing the incident as an act of brutality by a DCI officer.

"This is the second incident in less than four months, and this one was similarly shot by a DCI officer. I have spoken to Director Amin and I have told him I will accept nothing short of that officer being brought to court," stated Nathif Jama.
