Mathare activist Davis Lichuma has been found after going missing for over three days under suspicion of being abducted by people believed to be police officers.

According to witnesses, Lichuma was found dumped outside the Kenyatta National Hospital on Sunday night, and was believed to have been sedated.

"He looked like he was tortured and looked so confused. I tried talking to him, but he could not respond," said one of the witnesses.

He was later rushed to a Nairobi hospital, where he is receiving treatment.

The social justice activist went missing on June 25, 2026, during commemorations marking the second anniversary of the 2024 Gen Z protests.

Activists and human rights defenders on Sunday issued the government a 24-hour ultimatum to produce Lichuma, failure to which they will result in street demonstrations on Tuesday.

Lichuma, a member of the Social Justice Centre, had attended the June 25 protests when unknown persons reportedly picked him up.

The civil society wants the police to accept responsibility and be accountable for Lichuma's disappearance.

He was among several who were allegedly abducted on the commemoration day as five activists resurfaced over the weekend with injuries, saying they were tortured and dumped in different parts of Nairobi.

They include Frederick Odhiambo, Collins Otieno, Elijah Alam, Michael Ngige and Muteti Mulinge.

Among those missing are Macmillan Kiarie, Abdulaziz Budaand, and Michael Oloo.

The National Police Service (NPS) has reported that investigations are ongoing and all missing persons will be accounted for.
