Residents of Ng'othi, Kandongu, Kianjogu and surrounding villages woke up to the grim discovery, with the body dumped along the road near the Sogea furrow and bearing deep panga cuts to the head.
Shocked residents, led by Karani Mucaba and Peterson Ngiri, said the incident forced many to skip church services.
"He could have killed him with one cut if he wanted to kill him, why inflict over 10 cuts on his head?" posed Ngiri.
According to residents, the crime scene is located far from the villages, making it difficult for anyone to have heard a distress call.
"The body was discovered by farmers who had come to irrigate their rice farms early in the morning before going to church," Karani said.
Locals are now calling for thorough investigations to establish the motive behind the killing.
"The man is not known here. Police should investigate and establish who he is and why he was brutally murdered," said Njama, a resident of Kianjogu.
Kianjogu Sub-Location Assistant Chief Nyaga Kwonga, together with detectives from Kiamaciri Police Station, visited the scene. The body was later moved to Kerugoya County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is preserved awaiting identification as investigations continue.
