A police constable attached to the presidential escort unit is among two suspects arrested in Kutus trading centre in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County for allegedly abducting a 36-year-old woman.

The officer based at the Ruiru General Service Unit (GSU) camp and two others were arrested after the woman raised an alarm attracting Kutus residents.

According to Gichugu Sub-county Police Commander Anthony Mbogo, the suspects were allegedly forcing  Mercy Wahu Njogu aged 36 to go and withdraw cash from a local bank when she raised an alarm.

The police commander said the GSU officer Col. Samuel Mwangi Nyaga, 38,  his colleagues Mathew Karanja, 35,  and Wilfred Ngari, 38, abducted Wahu and forced her into a probox vehicle.

The Gichugu police boss also disclosed that the officer was being sought for deserting his duty since March this year.

"The officer was declared a deserter in the national police service vide Prescott Nairobi signal," said Mbogo.

The three suspects were presented at the Gichugu law courts on Tuesday at around 4pm where detectives were allowed to interrogate them for seven days. They are expected to appear in court on November 23, 2021.

The suspects are currently held at Kianyaga police station.
