President Uhuru Kenyatta has received his new generation firearm license in line with the directive from Interior CS Fred Matiang’i.

All Kenyan firearm holders are expected to apply afresh by March 18 this year.

“Today I received my new generation firearm license smart card and certificate from the Firearms Licensing Board after undergoing the due certification process and obtaining a unique identification number,”  the President said on Friday.

The Firearm Licensing Board will have all details of the firearm holder in a newly developed microchip card.

The owner is expected to show the card, that will have his/her image, when asked by the authorities.

This new regulation is meant to improve national security as far as gun ownership is concerned and it’s use by private citizens.
