A vehicle believed to be part of President William Ruto's motorcade on Wednesday overturned at Mlima Nugu area in Naivasha, Nakuru County.

Reports say that the vehicle, a Lexus 570, was carrying two members of the Presidential Escort Unit (PEU) when it rolled over while navigating the meandering road.

The vehicle's two occupants were rushed to a hospital in Naivasha for treatment following the incident whose exact cause has yet to be determined.

President Ruto was in the lakeside town to flag off the Naivasha circuit of the 2023 WRC Safari Rally, which he says brings in more than 100,000 visitors annually, creating job opportunities worth Ksh.24.7 billion.

The event has so far attracted 34 crews from 20 countries.

Kenya’s late rally driver, Shekhar Mehta, tops the WRC roll of honour with five wins in the event first launched in 1953.
