President Ruto to address UN General Assembly today

According to the UN schedule, Ruto will speak in the general debate on Wednesday afternoon, New York time (Wednesday night EAT). 

At the 81st session of the annual assembly, President Ruto has led the Kenyan delegation in championing increased investment in Africa, artificial intelligence development and reforms to the global financial system.

The Head of State is also expected to advance Kenya’s investment interests, attract African and international capital, and promote the continent’s role in shaping the global digital and artificial intelligence economy.

Ruto, who has long advocated for changes in the global multilateral structures, has continued with this call at the 81st UNGA. 

During the Kenya-European Union Partnership for Multilateralism Summit on Tuesday, Ruto asserted that Africa has sufficient domestic savings. Still, he believes the continent's capital reserves are not being effectively utilised for development.

He further called for global mutual collaboration, defending African countries from the global question of whether they are facing East or West.

On the sidelines of UNGA, Ruto also held bilateral talks with United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio. 

The two discussed opportunities to expand Kenya-U.S. cooperation in trade, technology, critical minerals, energy and regional security.

According to U.S. State Department Spokesman Tommy Pigott, Rubio and Ruto discussed how Kenya’s critical minerals opportunities could position the country as a key player in the sector while creating opportunities for U.S. firms to support value addition.

"They spoke about how critical minerals opportunities in Kenya can position the country as a key player in the sector while presenting opportunities for U.S. firms to provide value addition," Pigott said in a statement on Tuesday.
