President Ruto reappoints Gilbert Maluki as National Irrigation Authority board chair

President William Ruto has reappointed Eng. Gilbert Maluki as the Chairman of the National Irrigation Authority (NIA) Board for a second three-year term.

The reappointment was announced through a Gazette Notice, with the new term taking effect from July 24, 2026.

Maluki will continue leading the board as the authority implements programmes aimed at expanding irrigation infrastructure, boosting food production and enhancing Kenya's agricultural resilience.

The National Irrigation Authority is mandated to develop, manage and promote irrigation schemes across the country to support food security, increase agricultural productivity and reduce reliance on rain-fed farming.

Maluki's reappointment comes as the government continues to prioritise irrigation as a key pillar of its food security agenda under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

The Gazette Notice formalising the appointment states that Maluki will serve for another three years from the effective date of July 24, 2026.
