President William Ruto has arrived in Kazakhstan for a two-day State Visit aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between Nairobi and Astana, following his participation in the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum in Azerbaijan.

According to details shared on the President’s official X account, Ruto’s visit underscores Kenya’s growing engagement with Central Asia, building on more than a decade of steadily expanding ties between the two countries.

Upon arrival in Astana, the President was received by Kazakhstan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yermek Kosherbayev, marking the formal commencement of the high-level visit.

"Kenya and Kazakhstan have been planting seeds of friendship for over a decade through series of deliberate engagements. It is time to take these cordial relations to the next level. Our trade ties are already blossoming in tea, flowers, fertilizer, and logistics, with a growing direct connection between Nairobi and Astana, as well as other countries in Central Asia," said President Ruto.

During the visit, discussions are expected to focus on expanding cooperation into new areas such as finance, information and communication technology (ICT), tourism, energy, and educational exchange programmes.

The broader objective, according to the President’s statement, is to enhance job creation, facilitate skills transfer, and open up new markets for Kenyan exports.

President Ruto flew to Baku, Azerbaijan on May 17th, for the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum. He hailed the forum as a vital platform for advancing partnerships and practical solutions for sustainable urban development.
