Political leaders visit Ida Odinga to honour Raila, push for issue-based campaigns

The delegation was led by National Liberal Party (NLP) leader Augustus Muli and Political Parties Liaison Committee (PPLC) chairman Evans Misati.

Speaking during the visit, Muli said Raila's contribution to Kenya's democratic development should continue to be recognised.

"Baba died last year. The time for mourning is over. Today is for celebration," he said.

The delegation comprised representatives of the United Democratic Party (UDP), United Progressive Alliance (UPA), United People's Forum (UPF), Party of Peace and Order Kenya (PPOK), Kenya Patriotic Party (KPP), National Unity Party of Equality and Unity (NUPEU), Liberal Party of Kenya (LPK), Alliance for Real Change Kenya (ARCK), People's Green Party (PGP) and the National Liberal Party (NLP).

Kenya Patriotic Party leader Dick Kamau described Mama Ida as a key figure during the second liberation movement, saying she helped maintain communication between Raila Odinga and pro-democracy activists who had been detained or forced into exile.

"You were the bridge that kept the struggle alive. That sacrifice must never be forgotten," Kamau said.

Misati said the parties had agreed to advocate for campaigns centred on issues affecting Kenyans, including employment, the cost of living, healthcare, education, agriculture and youth empowerment, instead of ethnic politics.

"Kenyans deserve solutions, not insults. We reject tribal politics, incitement and violence as the country heads to the 2027 elections," he said.

In a joint statement, the parties said Raila's legacy should be reflected through support for democratic governance, constitutionalism and strong public institutions.
